Who we are
I have been on or around farms my whole life. Over the years I have watched my family's farm grow as a destination and on-farm market. Using everything I have learned from my family, I have decided to start a "CSA" servicing the downtown area of Toronto after noticing a lack of fresh local produce available as well as seeing an opportunity to do some charitable work where it is needed.
I am a food fanatic and proud Torontonian. Growing up north of the city, I've always had a connection with a rural community and the importance of supporting local farms. It was an easy decision to come on board Homegrown and work with James, and I am excited at the opportunity to not only offer great local produce to the city, but also to partner with great local companies and charities and give back to the community I love so much.
HISTORY OF THE FARM
Forsythe Family Farms has been owned and operated by James' parents since 1972. Originally operating as a road side wagon in Markham, they sold mainly cold crops (cabbage, broccoli, cauliflower). In 1986 they rented a farm on Kennedy road and opened to the public the following year with an on-farm market exclusively selling Ontario grown produce as well as fun activities for the family to do. The Forsythe's purchased the farm in Greenbank in 1997, and have been there exclusively since 2014 once the owners sold the Markham farm. The farm offers school and group tours, as well as pick your own, animals to visit, wagon rides, and lots of other fun activities.
